Zug: A Word for the Multipod Soul

You’ll notice that I sort the navigation on my site visually by the length of the words. But I also want the home page to be the very first link (because Tradition!). The only problem is “Home” is longer than “Blog.” It didn’t sit right, so after far too much pondering (multipod problems! 😊), I came up with “Zug.”

Why “Zug”? Well, it’s the German word for “pull” (and also for trains 🚂 BTW). As a multipotentialite, I’m always feeling the pull, the “Zug,” toward new ideas, projects, and rabbit holes. It felt like the perfect fit.

In English, “Zug” has a cozy, earthy vibe, like something Yoda or Winnie the Pooh would retire to for a long think or a pot of honey. But in German, it’s “tsoog!” Sharp, urgent, and full of energy, like a speeding train or the sensation of being yanked down into yet another exciting rabbit hole.

I love both renditions. One is steady and grounding; the other is a whirlwind of curiosity. Together, they capture the duality of being a multipod: the quiet contemplation and the unstoppable momentum.

And yes, it’s shorter than “Home.” So it works. 😊

BTW “Zugzwang” is a chess term for a situation where every possible move makes things worse? Somehow, that feels very multipod too—when you’ve got so many options, it’s almost paralyzing!
