That Last Time I Rode Caltrain

I’m actually kidding! Until a few days ago, I had never ridden Caltrain. OK, I did ride the Penisula rails twice, but both times were behind the venerable Southern Pacific 2472 steam engine. The second time was in late 2002. A friend invited me and Joyce to ride aboard the Silver Solarium, a restored observation car from the classic California Zephyr train. I remember that when we returned to San Francisco, they wyed the train on an industrial track that crossed 16th Street toward 3rd Street, and then pushed the train backward to 4th and King. That track has long been removed and there is no longer a way to wye trains in SF. That whole Mission Bay area is now occupied by UCSF.
