Resistance Always Shows Up
Resistance is sneaky. It shows up disguised as doubt, fear, and distraction. It whispers lies to keep you from creating.
“If it’s not perfect, it’s not worth doing.”
This voice demands impossible standards. It makes starting or finishing feel pointless.
“This is terrible. You have no talent.”
Self-doubt at its loudest. It wants you to quit before you even begin.
“Everyone else is better than me.”
Comparison kills momentum. There will always be someone better, but that’s not the point.
“Just one more video, one more scroll.”
A master of disguise. This voice calls itself “research” or “inspiration.” It’s neither.
“I’m not in the right mood. I should wait until I feel inspired.”
A classic excuse. Waiting doesn’t make art. Doing does.
“You’re too tired. Just rest instead.”
Sometimes true. Often not. Resistance exaggerates your exhaustion to keep you from starting.
“Make something people will like. If no one notices, was it even worth making?”
This voice craves validation. It drowns out your instincts.
Here’s what to do: Call it out, then create anyway. You won’t silence these voices. But you don’t have to obey them. Recognizing them is the first step. Answering them is the second.
Perfectionism? “Good enough is better than never done.”
Self-doubt? “Every artist starts somewhere.”
Comparison? “Their work is theirs. Mine is mine.”
Distraction? “Ten minutes of making, then we’ll see.”
Validation? “What if I create just for me?”
Here’s the truth… Resistance points the way. Resistance isn’t a roadblock. It’s a sign. The louder it gets, the closer you are to something important. It doesn’t mean stop. It means push through. Resistance will always be there, waiting to dance. So take the lead.
