Disconnected from Self

Monday mornings like today are rough. It was a long weekend, and I unplugged from social media and immersed myself in new learning. I’m taking an online music theory course and attended an improv workshop. Both felt like steep climbs up the learning mountain. After a weekend like this, I feel disconnected from the world. It feels almost like withdrawal. Which is ironic, considering how connected things seem these days.

When I feel disconnected from the world, I know deep down I’m actually disconnected from myself. It shows up as a lack of joy. The kind that comes from being truly aligned with my inner self. So how do I recover that joy? Through making. The act of creating something has a magical way of recentering me, of reconnecting me with myself and the world. Like I’m doing right now by writing this post. I feel better already.
