Solar Panels in the Fog Zone

I live near the ocean in San Francisco. Foggy summers might make solar panels seem like a bad idea. But ours have worked great. Installed in 2008, and we haven’t paid for electricity since, just the $12 monthly grid connection fee.

Electricity production for 2020, 2021, and 2022 showing dips in July and August

The trick? The fog is mostly July and August. April, May, and June are sunny enough to carry the year. Production dips in summer but is balanced by spring sunshine.

A typical April – almost every day we’re producing more electricity than we consume

This year, we’re adding an electric car (not a Tesla, thanks). I’ll be curious to see what it does to the numbers.

Gotta clean them every couple years
